After impetus (thanks Shan!) and talking it over with the mods, the TARDIS interior will very shortly be accessible. This is not an item--this is more based on the realization that there's no reason for the interior to not exist, provided that the ship has no ability to leave.

The TARDIS has been on the island and under repair of some sort since January of '07. At the moment, the console room is the only accessible part of the ship; the combined efforts of the Doctor, Jack, Ace, and others have managed to get the lights up and the data banks running (with the more-than-occasional Gallifreyan equivalent of the blue screen of death). Having people in it bashing and zapping and having nothing happen is pretty darn boring--the TARDIS is dynamic and almost alive in the DW universe, and to have her so intensely limited is a drain on the Doctor himself.

Having sudden access to the whole interior is no fun, and since DW doesn't really deal with how the TARDIS works, I've decided, with mod approval, that interior access will be expanded as the memory banks improve and come back online. The interior is folded multi-dimensional space, so theoretically once there's enough data storage for the TARDIS to essentially login to different levels and maintain a cohesive space, the actual physical access would come back in dribs and drabs.

In terms of plot, it might be amusing to have parts flicker in and out of existence at inconvenient times. It also could provide tension between those who think this might allow them to leave and those who don't.

I'd love input from all of you regarding when and how to implement this, if it should be gradual or more sudden, and what you'd like to see in the TARDIS. Basics will include the wardrobe, a garden, and the dear ol' boot cupboard. Please comment and discuss.

ETA: Much as I'd like to wait on this, I will be wicked hiatusy from 6 July for two weeks, so please take that into consideration as I would really rather keep the TARDIS limited NPC.

I'd LOVE to see her open up and then have a BSOD episode, trapping a few people in some part that's there but not. Of course, someone would have to stay behind for cursing and percussive maintanence. (I volunteer jack for that bit)

I'm also supremely selfish and want Jack there when they finally get, hmmm, well...what about the wardrobe room open? Fuck you, clothes box. The Doctor's closet is...oh, right. A lot of the same ;)

I'll have more ideas, that's just what I got now.

I love that idea of a BSOD episode.

Jo will be right beside Jack with the wardrobe opening :) (and then get particularly annoyed if it disappears again)

Will wants a tour. :D
Dr. Mohinder Suresh: seeking inwardkarmic_darwin on June 11th, 2008 04:44 am (UTC)
Mohinder could get lost, if you need volunteers. :)
Captain John Hart: kissing jackrogue_at_hart on June 11th, 2008 05:15 am (UTC)
For ultimate plotty justice, I'd like John to be involved. I'm pretty flexible (not as much as John or Jack), so let me know and I'll give you the yes or no. Also, if we were to do a BSOD episode (I kinda like the idea, and not just because it comes from the Joss to my RTD ;) ), John has tech know-how, and Deense, if you're interested in getting Tosh involved, that could get even more interesting.

Anyway, the Doctor and John need to meet. :D

Oh, Jo will love the wardrobe. I like the idea of being able to get to some rooms in the TARDIS sometimes and adventures in BSODs. It could be quite interesting too, if some people's rooms (with their stuff in - some of which might be from their futures) started coming back.

Gradual and sudden sounds like a good idea to me. By which I mean, rooms might suddenly appear, but how many will be gradual. So there's always something new.

Turlough has a storied history of breaking bits of poking around the TARDIS controls. Sure for a while there it was in a half-assed effort to, y'know, kill the Doctor but that's all in the past and he ended up being helpful. *cough*

(And oh HAI this comm is here *facepalm of fail* I should do an intro post, y/y?)

If there's any way for Martha and the Master to discover part of it, that would be brilliant, as they've been putting a lot of work into it over the past few months. Also, it would make the Master smug and thus annoy the Doctor. XD
themistermaster on June 11th, 2008 10:38 pm (UTC)
I second this like woah, because the Master does so love being extremely smug. And annoying the Doctor. And also I give massive thumbs up to the entire idea <3 because yey for the TARDIS!

And I am definitely up for including him in BSOD, which sounds like it could be fun. (What does it stand for, though? I get the idea, just not the acronym.) Particularly if he gets stuck with the right people, by which I of course mean the wrong people.

And now I'm just musing on things he could potentially find in the TARDIS, because there has to be something he could find in there that could be a whole lot of fun. And rooms! Oooh, the Zero Room could be intriguing...

BSOD = Blue Screen of Death.

I'll be back tonight to catch all y'all's comments, I've got to dash so I can find parking in time.
Ianto Jonescoffee_sir on June 11th, 2008 04:29 pm (UTC)
Ianto is of course there, having some small technical knowledge and presumably having been poking around in the TARDIS on occasion. But I have nothing useful to input at all. XD I'll think about it though.

He could always shoot Owen if he gets too close to anything important. Please?

Sarah Jane just wants to get lost inside.

Chase says the lot of you can keep your silly hobby and he's keeping his nose out of All Things TARDIS.
