Okay, so I have a random question...

What did the world-at-large think happened to Harold Saxon?

I'm asking of course because of Donna - i.e. when/if she meets the Master (or Sam Tyler, I suppose), what's she going to think? Was he supposed to be dead, or carted off to a loony bin, or what?

And this is probably one of those not-answered-in-canon things, so if anyone just wants to come up with a reasonable answer I'm happy to go with whatever. :)

They never said, in canon. I sort of assumed that the government covered it up, as they do. But that he's known to be dead.

He did kill the President BEFORE everything got reset, right? And that was on TV?

Maybe the government spun it like he had some sort of medical condition that caused him to go temporarily insane and then he had a brain aneurism or something.

Of course, I imagine that most people don't believe it and there are lots of fun conspiracy theories. ;)

Yes. That was one thing I thought was particularly amusing -- They went all the way back in time, but not far enough that the US president survived. XD

I took the PR spin to be that he was shot by Lucy, after he killed the American president, because she was the only one who snapped out of the OMG WHAT DID YOU DO thing; Mrs Saxon is now 'recovering' in an undisclosed location. I'm sure the soldiers and the Jones family were debriefed very, very well on what would happen if they deviated from that.

My guess would be, from the sheer lack of any difference in Donna's 2009, that the explanation was taken pretty well, at least by the British public.

As for her meeting the Master, I'd worry about that if/when it happens.
